rOUNDTABLE DISCUSSION ON GENDER AND POLITICS: PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE tHURSDAY, mARCH 24TH, 2016 from 12:30-1:30 pm University of alberta, ed 176
The Political Science Graduate Students' Association (PSGSA) is excited to announce a lunchtime roundtable discussion featuring prominent gender and politics scholars discussing the institutionalization of the subfield at the U of A. The U of A is home to one of only four departments in Canada that recognizes gender and politics as a subfield of political science. Join us as we go back in time with renowned gender and politics scholars to explore the establishment of the subfield 16 years ago. Why was is it important to institutionalize the study of gender and politics, when many other programs had not done so? Was there resistance to the idea of a gender and politics subfield in our department?
We also invite speakers and participants to look to the future of the field: what kinds of challenges and changes to the study of gender and politics do you foresee in the future? How will the subfield continue to adapt to the salience of identity categories like race, Indigeneity, ability, and sexuality? In other words, why gender and politics?
Confirmed speakers include: Dr. Janine Brodie, Dr. Linda Trimble, Dr. Lois Harder, Dr. Catherine Kellogg, Dr. Laurie Adkin, Dr. Siobhan Byrne, and Dr. Isabel Altamirano-Jiménez.
This event is possible with the generous support of the Faculty of Arts at the U of A. Lunch will be provided including vegan and gluten free options. Reserve your seat and your lunch now!
